Peer Review Process

Peer Review Process

At NUJAH, we believe that rigorous peer review is the cornerstone of scholarly publishing. The review process ensures that published research meets high academic standards, is ethically sound, and contributes meaningfully to the field of Arts and Humanities.

Why Peer Review Matters

  • Improves Rigor: Peer reviewers help identify gaps in argumentation, research design, or analysis that may need further elaboration or clarification. Their insights contribute to a more robust and defensible manuscript.

  • Enhances Clarity: Reviewers assess the readability of the paper and provide suggestions when sections are unclear or overly complex, ensuring that the work is understandable not just to specialists but also to a broader academic audience.

  • Increases Impact: Reviewers evaluate the relevance and significance of the work, helping authors better position their contributions within the wider research landscape.

  • Maintains Quality: Reviewers serve as gatekeepers to uphold the integrity, originality, and academic value of all articles published in NUJAH.

Stages of Peer Review

Stage 1: Internal Editorial Screening
Upon submission, each manuscript undergoes an initial evaluation by the Chief Editor to ensure:

  • Alignment with the journal’s aims and scope

  • Compliance with formatting guidelines

  • Completeness of submission files (cover letter, manuscript, figures, references, etc.)

  • Verification of originality and authorship

  • Plagiarism check using advanced detection tools

  • Rejection of AI- or machine-generated manuscripts if detected

Manuscripts that fail to meet basic requirements are returned to the author for revision before proceeding to peer review.

Stage 2: Double-Blind External Review
Once a manuscript passes the internal screening, it is assigned to two independent expert reviewers under a double-blind peer review system, where neither the author(s) nor reviewers are identified to one another.

Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on:

  • Originality and contribution to the field

  • Methodological soundness

  • Quality of writing and presentation

  • Accuracy of citations and references

  • Ethical considerations

Based on their evaluation, reviewers may recommend:

  • Accept without revision

  • Minor revisions

  • Major revisions

  • Reject

Authors are expected to address all reviewer comments and resubmit the revised manuscript. In some cases, the revised version may be re-reviewed for final approval. Final decisions are made by the editorial board based on the reviewer feedback and the quality of revisions.

This process ensures that all NUJAH publications meet rigorous academic standards and contribute meaningfully to the global conversation in Arts and Humanities.
