Quality assurance and accreditation (QAA) processes originated in the business discipline and are now used in higher education institutions in Afghanistan to enhance quality of education. Students and lecturers show limited engagement with and are unaware of the concept and criteria of quality assurance at universities in Afghanistan. This scientific study aimed to explore the concept and importance of QAA for improving and developing countries' higher education systems. This research adopted a systematic review and analyzed data by coding, categorizing, and interpreting articles. The study revealed that quality assurance is indispensable for private and public universities. The university should inform stakeholders such as students and lecturers about QAA standards through awareness sessions. Across multiple studies, it is evident that quality assurance is a systematic process that needs qualified internal and external auditors. Quality assurance and accreditation contribute to helping universities educate students for the national industry and global job market.
